Ok, I am 3 days in and still going. This is a lot more than I can say for the past year.
This morning I was surprised by a call from Jeff’s mom asking to take Julian out to the grocery store to get him out of the house for a bit. Julian loves going to Market Basket (that makes 1 of us) so he was all for it.
I got Caleb down for a nap in his crib right before Grandma showed up and used the first chunk of time to clean up the kitchen from breakfast and throw in some laundry. That didn’t take long so I threw on an old loose sports bra (thanks, breastfeeding) and some workout leggings and ran downstairs to find another quick workout on Youtube.
I wasn’t sure how much time I had so I went with a 10 minute video from Lindsay Brin. The title mentioned HIIT and postnatal fitness for moms so I figured that would do the trick. I got through the workout and went back and did it all again for a 20 min workout. It was more intense than my workout yesterday (but not at all hard if you’re actually in shape) but I managed through it and of course feel great now.
Thank God I took advantage this morning because this afternoon’s nap session was all over the place. I got Julian down and still had to feed and get Caleb down and as soon as I did that, Julian woke back up. I got him down with enough time to start this post and he is back up again! This time I am guessing I won’t be able to get him back to sleep.
Anyways, now he’s up and having a snack while watching Sesame Street so I will attempt to finish up.
So eating wise the last two days have been good minus my hangry attack in between nap battles this afternoon. Not a lot of desserts and only a glass of wine Sunday night with dinner. Yes desserts and drinking is my measuring stick at the moment, lol.
HIIT tends to make me extra hungry, plus I have the whole breastfeeding hunger thing happening. Right as I finished my workout this morning Caleb got up and it was time for his bath, then Julian and Grandma got home and I had to feed Caleb so I didn’t have anything to eat post workout. I didn’t eat anything until a lunch of kale, deli turkey, carrots cucumbers and some hummus and crackers. So by 2:30 I was feeling like I needed more. I had a blueberry RX bar (love) and a banana. Fine. But then I couldn’t resist a giant blueberry muffin my mother in law brought me with my coffee! I was still hungry even after a protein packed rx bar! Oops. O well. That’s my dessert for the day I guess.
I’m still trying to decide how I am going to track this – whether I use the blog or not. I don’t have a ton of extra time in the day especially now that I am trying to workout regularly. I love the idea of daily blogging and tracking eats and exercise, just like my favorite bloggers used to do back in the day. But I’m just not sure I have the time to do it! We’ll see how it all goes.
Also, total disclaimer, I have no idea what I am doing. I am only a trained yoga professional, I have no professional fitness training otherwise and I am not a dietician. So I’m just doing what I feel is best for me right now. I’d love to get into a gym and start working with a trainer but I have another month before Caleb is officially old enough to bring to most gym daycares around here. So walking and youtube vids it is for me right now!
I’m hoping to make some progress this month eating more healthy foods than blueberry muffins and trying to get some workout/movement in each day and see how I feel. I am really just looking to get my endurance back up a little – it’d be nice to not be exhausted just walking more than 100 feet at a time, feel stronger and more toned, and have more energy. Being active has such a positive effect on my mood and how I handle stressful situations, too, so it’s really important I try to stick with it if only for this reason alone. Stressful situations are aplenty with an unpredictable and moody most of the time toddler.
